THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO VIC

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO VIC (AKA HEAVENLY PURSUITS, 1985, UK, Charles Gormley)

If the grey Glasgow setting of this faith-affirming Tom Conti vehicle is a tad drearier than the sun-blest Italy of SAVING GRACE, there's still plenty of charm in the story of a sceptical special ed teacher at the Blessed Edith Semple School who gets caught up in maybe miracles that could secure the school's namesake her place as a full-fledged saint (she's got one, needs three to qualify). Writer-director Charles Gormley borrows some off-kilter Scottish appeal from his long-time associate Bill Forsyth in this mildly comic story that blends an inspiring teacher, a tweedy romance and other divine workings in a friendly enough little film.

SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN, MIRACLES, THE THIRD MIRACLE
