NOW PLAYING

Still completely immersed in A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS and a trillion other things at PT. But need to mention a few highly commended films that are playing now, and won't be here forever. So, quick and dirty...

PERSEPOLIS and THE BAND'S VISIT are both in town, I think at the Fifth Avenue [PTC comments that they're actually at Tinseltown. thanks, Peter], and this from a fellow afficionado...
Greetings Movie Fans!

Here's a "Must See" for everyone's list - Up the Yangtze. I saw it yesterday and it was a marvelous trip. Narratively spare, visually beautiful and entirely rich in human experiences. Wow. There was a too brief
Q & A with director Yung Chang which made it even more interesting. Check it out:

It's at the Ridge.

PS Is BE KIND, REWIND showing here yet? The trailer caught my fancy, and Steven Greydanus gives it a decent review at CT Movies; "If I had to put Be Kind Rewind in a box, which is emphatically not where any Gondry film belongs, I might be tempted to call it Lars and the Real Girl by way of Bowfinger—the latter for its comic guerrilla filmmaking, but the former for its similarity of spirit, its gentle absurdism in an ode to benevolence and community togetherness."

Nope, they're at the Tinseltown. The Fifth Avenue is showing nothing but Best Picture Oscar nominees this week.

Ron - Just saw "Be Kind Rewind" out here in the valley (in Mission) tonight, and it lived up to its promise in my opinion. I think the reviewer you quoted may have missed it just a bit in naming a theme of 'community togetherness'. Though that plays a part, I felt like what Gondry was really trying to do was show his love for the power of his medium. Not so much community togetherness for its own sake, but community's common ability to be touched by a story told through moving pictures... absurdism to be sure, but very beautiful. I'm looking forward to any thoughts you may post here on the film in the future! :)
